The Shortest Ski Transfers From Geneva Airport

Our Top 5 Ski Resorts with the Quickest (& Cheapest) Transfers from Geneva Airport

Geneva airport is undoubtedly one of the biggest and busiest transport hubs for skiers and snowboarders during the winter months. Situated on the border between Switzerland and France, Geneva airport sees tourists heading to some of Europe’s best ski resorts passing through.

This mass of travellers has been created partly because of Geneva’s size, partly because of its links with low-cost airlines, and partly because it’s location provides some of the quickest and convenient ski transfers to some amazing French resorts.

The airports two terminals handled close to 200.000 takeoffs and landings in 2017 – accommodating 17.4 million passengers. 58 airlines pass through Geneva airport – including major low-cost UK operators such as EasyJet, Flybe and Jet2.

What we’ll be concentrating on in this blog though is Geneva’s excellent location and transport links which provide some of the quickest and cheapest transfers available to French ski resorts. No one wants to spend three hours in a minibus traversing winding mountain roads. It is necessary in some situations unfortunately, but if you have the choice why not choose shorter transfers and more skiing time.

Here are our favourite 5 resorts with the shortest ski transfers from Geneva airport:

Chamonix

Transfer distance – 102km

Approximate private transfer time – 1 hour 15 minutes

Cheapest private transfer price – £160

Geneva Airport to Chamonix Ski Resort TransfersChamonix ski resort is known the world over as one of the best places for extreme activities all year around. In the winter months this specifically applies to skiing and snowboarding with some of the steepest, most challenging runs in the area and the potential for amazing off-piste in the right conditions. The large town is a lively place with plenty of nightlife to enjoy in between pushing your ski abilities to the limit on the surrounding mountain ranges.

Avoriaz

Transfer distance – 95km

Approximate private transfer time – 1 hour 40 minutes

Cheapest private transfer price – £177

The ski resort of Avoriaz features a range of modern, high-rise architecture perched upon a steep cliff face. The car-free resort centre is compact and conveniently arranged making it particularly popular with families. Ski facilities are excellent for all levels and include a 25 acre area dedicated to ski schools and beginner. As part of the large Portes du Soleil ski area as well there are 600km of pistes which will keep more advanced skiers occupied for much more than 7 days.

Morzine

Transfer distance – 82km

Approximate private transfer time – 1 hour 20 minutes

Cheapest private transfer price – £160

Geneva Airport to Morzine Ski Resort TransfersA traditional Savoyard village set right in the heart of the Portes du Soleil ski area – Morzine benefits from being central to a huge, varied range of skiing and snowboarding which will satisfy any group. Both beginner slopes and advanced pistes sit right on Morzine’s doorstep which makes for a convenient weeks holiday. Aside from the skiing, Morzine has both a relaxed pace of life as well as plenty of apres-ski bars and restaurants as required.

La Clusaz

Transfer distance – 70km

Approximate private transfer time – 1 hour 10 minutes

Cheapest private transfer price – £177

La Clusaz resort is often overlooked by British tourists, but is a little gem of a village which is definitely worth taking a look at. A transfer time of just over an hour from Geneva airport is one of the biggest draws of La Clusaz. The lack of international skiers and snowboarders means there are very few crowds though. The resort has been left as a traditional and authentic French village which is entirely unique these days. The La Clusaz ski area which spans 5 lift-linked mountains also deserves more attention.

Les Gets

Transfer distance – 84km

Approximate private transfer time – 1 hour 15 minutes

Cheapest private transfer price – £154

Les Gets is a resort known for being great for families. The wooden chalets-style buildings provide an authentic French ski village feel with a friendly, safe atmosphere. A range of food and wine shops line the central street and provide much-needed nourishment for skiers returning after a hard day. Links in to the large Portes du Soleil ski area are good, as well as Les Gets local slopes being plentiful and often much quieter than those in Morzine and Avoriaz.
